OTTAWA – Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $290 million in the third quarter of 2023 as revenue fell for the Parcels and Transaction Mail lines of business. 

OTTAWA – Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $107 million in the first quarter of 2023 as Parcels revenue was relatively flat and Transaction Mail and Direct Marketing revenue declined.

OTTAWA – Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $160 million in the second quarter of 2022 as Canadians’ online shopping slowed and revenue declined for Parcels and Transaction Mail.

The Canada Post segment recorded a loss before tax of $50 million for the second quarter of 2019, as continuing declines in mail volumes were offset by parcels volumes growth that was more modest than the significant growth rates of a year ago.

Canada Post recorded a profit before tax of $23 million in the first quarter of 2019, as growth in its Parcels business continued, but only moderately due to the continued impact from major customers making other delivery arrangements last fall and into 2019.

Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $94 million for the third quarter of 2018, mainly due to the costs of implementing the final pay equity ruling, which will adjust how much delivery employees in suburban and rural Canada (RSMC) are paid.

Canada Post is reporting a first-quarter profit, driven mostly by robust growth in its Parcels business as it delivers Canadians’ online purchases.

The Canada Post segment lost $62 million before tax in the third quarter, traditionally the postal service's slowest period of the year. Year-to-date, the Canada Post segment is reporting a profit of $13 million before tax heading into the holiday season when millions of Canadians are expected to make an unprecedented number of purchases online.

The Canada Post segment lost $60 million before tax in the third quarter, when the risk of a work disruption prompted commercial customers to make other arrangements to deliver their parcels and mail.

Benefitting from savings from its business transformation efforts in the previous year, and on the strength of its Parcels line of business, the Canada Post segment recorded a small profit before tax of $1 million in the second quarter. This essentially break-even result compares to a loss before tax of $31 million in the same period a year ago.

Continuing strength in the Parcels line of business contributed to a $44-million profit before tax for the Canada Post segment in the first quarter of 2016. This compares to a profit before tax of $24 million in the same period a year ago.

The Canada Post segment reported a profit before tax of $13 million in the third quarter compared to a loss before tax of $129 million in the same quarter of 2013.

The Canada Post segment reported a profit before tax of $53 million for the second quarter of 2014 compared to a loss before tax of $104 million in the same quarter of 2013. For the first two quarters of 2014, the segment reported a profit before tax of $26 million, compared to a loss before tax of $36 million for the same period in 2013.
